Hyderabad, May 9: Herbal tea shop owner on the premises of Gandhi Bhavan G Balaji has allegedly cheated some 60 gullible people and collected nearly Rs 50 lakhs by assuring them that he would procure Bhoodan land at Kuntloor village, near Nagole at a cheaper price. Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, one of the victims, S Sudhakar, alleged that he had paid Rs 5 lakhs to Balaji as he claimed that ministers and MLAs were his friends and that he could procure them house plots at cheaper rate. But, Balaji failed to keep his promise. The victims said that they soon realized his true colors and demanded him to repay their hard-earned money. But, coolly ignored their demands and did not return their money so far. They also alleged that Balaji was continuing his illegal activities and collecting handsome sums from people. When enquired about Balaji’s credentials, Bhoodan Board chairman said that Balaji was not a member in the Board. The victims have demanded that the State government cancel his herbal tea shops at Gandhi Bhavan and Secretariat and initiate action against him for cheating the gullible people. They also urged Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to order stringent action against Balaji and make him refund money to all the victims. Sudhakar said as Balaji had promised to procure 100-yard plot for Rs 30,000, many people paid him money and some even lakhs for acquiring a couple of acres. He also produced a Xerox copy of a receipt dated January 7, 2009, issued by G Balaji acknowledging receipt of Rs 5 lakh from N Raghava Rao, son of N Srinivasa Rao, for getting clearance of land in S No 353 and 354 at Kukatpally village under Balanagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district. The alleged victims Babu, Gopal, Vekataiah and Veeraiah were also present at the press meet.
