The state Brahmin Associations met the President Shri Pranab Mukerjee today (January 01) in the morning at Hyderabad. After exchanging pleasantries the team impressed his excellency, over the recent excesses in some films that hurt their sentiment. They requested him to curb such insults that are going unheeded in the censor board.They also felt that the rules in censor board must be made stringent towards issues that play on the sentiments of the people of a particular sect.Recently two films in Tollywood attracted the ire of the community. The two films were Denikaina Ready and a Woman in Brahminism. Some controversial scenes in these two films had been objected by the association. Industry saw a rough weather prevailing for sometime when the films were released.Denikaina Ready was produced by veteran actor Mohan babu and stared his son Manchu Vishnu and Hansika Motwani. While some from the same sect supported the film, many objected and sought the cut in scenes.On the other hand, a Woman in Brahminism was based on a popular Telugu novel, Brahmaneekam written by Gudipati Chalam. The storyline of this film was about a sexstarved Brahmin woman who enters into illicit affair with a man of aI lower cast.Both these films were severely objected by the association even after the state censor board certifying the films after the cuts it felt necessary. However the controversy raked in rich moolah to the producers.
